To simplify the process I break all projects down into 3 stages:
Concept & Design Development.
Concept Development
The initial stage is all about developing your brief and initial ideas and translating them into a logical document which provides you with critical view on layouts, architectural form and a coherent design narrative for the overall project.
The start of this process is always an initial meeting or conversation. Ideally in person and on site. Just give us the chance it begin to build a repore with each other and find out if we are a fit to work together and give me chance to see the property first hand. We discuss things like lifestyle, aspirations, requirements, design style likes and dislikes and budgets. From there we will develop a brief together which will form the basis for whole project going forward.
Once we have agreed on a brief and scope of work to achieve your aspirations, I will undertake site analysis and, where applicable, a measured survey of your property. This will give me a full understanding your site and this is used to inform and guide the concept design process.
Initial designs are then produced using site analysis and the measured survey to convey a number of options to satisfy your brief and exceed your aspirations. I communicate this via sketches, three-dimensional modelling, computer modelling and precedents, to agree a concept and design narrative for the rest of the project.
Design Development
I then take the agreed scheme forwards to develop the design in sufficient detail for a planning submission to be made to the local authority.
This will include the suite of drawings required for a submission to the Local Planning Authority along with accompanying documents such as Design and Access Statements. Depending on the project and the site their may be a requirement to appointment third party consultants such as Ecologists, Planning Consultants or Heritage Consultants. If that is the case I will co-ordinate this information on your behalf providing you with a single point of contact.
